Anticipating the first session can be a bit nerve wracking for a lot of people. I know this from my own experience of seeing therapists! The first session is an assessment appointment which is a two-way process. Two-way because:
Research tells us that key to the success of any therapy is the quality of the therapeutic relationship. As trust is a big part in the therapeutic relationship it is really important that you feel comfortable with any therapist that you choose to work with. How you feel is the best way to find this out. I know that when I had some personal therapy in the past I did not feel comfortable with the first therapist so I shopped around until I found someone that better suited my needs. As a client you are the customer so do shop around. |
At the end of the assessment session if we both feel able to proceed we can book in further therapy sessions. I regularly (about every 3-5 sessions) make space to review how the work is progressing and whether you feel you are moving towards your aims. I am happy to talk for free on the phone, at a mutually convenient time, to answer any questions that you may have, if you are undecided.
Appointments last 50-55 minutes |
