confidentiality / ethics

As a chartered psychologist I adhere to the British Psychological Society’s Code of Ethics.  This means confidentiality regarding information disclosed in the course of therapy is paramount. It will not be shared with a third party except in the following circumstances:

  • Regular supervision – supervision is essential to good ethical practice. My supervisor adheres to codes of confidentiality.
  • Letters and reports to professionals for which you have given consent.
  • If I make a reasonable judgment that you or another person may be at risk of harm I will disclose information to relevant authorities. Wherever possible such disclosure will be discussed with you.
  • If there is a court order to do so.

Notes kept relating to the therapy will be kept securely in a locked filing cabinet during and after the therapy for 2 years.  I am registered under the data protection act.
